One of the biggest investors in blockchain gaming, Animoca Brands, has managed to gain licensing rights for the renowned Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg racetrack. This will allow the company to introduce the iconic German racetrack into various racing games within the REVV Motorsport ecosystem.

Jorn Teske, the managing director of Hockenheim-Ring GmbH, said:

“We are very proud and happy to take our first step into the metaverse alongside Animoca Brands, one of the top blockchain gaming companies and a true pace-setter when it comes to providing digital property rights to gamers.”

“Our standing as one of the first officially licensed race tracks of REVV Motorsport both underlines the strength of our brand and opens up access to entirely new target groups and a new dimension of fan engagement. The economic potential this yields for us as licensors also makes it extremely interesting as a business case.”

Opened in 1932 in southwestern Germany, the 4574km circuit has a capacity of 120k seats, inhabiting 700k visitors attending various motorsport events every year. Apart from racing, the Hockenheimring has also been used for numerous open-air concerts, conferences, congresses, workshops and more.

The executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, Yat Sui, added the following:

Players of REVV Motorsport games will be able to race on one of the most distinguished circuits in the world, and will even have the chance to enjoy true digital ownership over segments of the virtual racetrack, with all the associated benefits.”

Becoming an owner of a Hockenheimring NFT could give you passive incentives from things such as sponsorships, entry fees and potentially other sources of revenue that the virtual version may accumulate.

Last month saw Animoca acquire Eden Games, a French game development studio with extensive experience in the racing genre. They’re known for titles such as Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed and F1 Mobile Racing, and are now focusing on improving and expanding upon the REVV Motorsport ecosystem, which suffered a setback after Animoca was unable to renew the license for F1 Delta Time.
