Alien Worlds developer Dacoco has announced the launch of a new community game supported by a Galactic Hubs grant: Battlefleet Armageddon.

What Is Battlefleet Armageddon?

Battlefleet Armageddon is a free-to-play mobile auto battler that’s been in development since early 2023 by Mercury Forge, a traditional game studio that’s worked on around 50 projects over the past 6 years across mobile, web, console, the metaverse, and a bit of crypto in recent times, according to the studio’s co-founder, Aaron Yuan. It’s one of the projects that were a part of Season 2 of the Galactic Hubs grant program.

In the official announcement, Yuan talks about what makes the world of blockchain gaming different from the traditional one, saying he thinks that “crypto is a bit different, in multiple ways obviously – there’s a mechanical difference, but I think for a lot of people the expectations of the community are different as well,” adding that the way the community engages is different from Web2, and that is “something that we’re learning right now.”

“From the very inception of the project, we were thinking in terms of multiplayer, and how the story would emerge naturally from engagement between players. So we talked with a member of the Alien Worlds team and it was a very interesting conversation. They saw what we were working on, which was an early version of what we have now, and we had a lot in common in terms of the vision we wanted to achieve. I feel you guys had already done many of the things we would need right inside of the universe, and it just seemed like a great match. Truthfully, we have explored other ecosystems but the match was just not really exactly right.”

Aaron Yuan compares the game to the likes of Teamfight Tactics and Dota Underlords, both well-known titles in the auto battler genre. In this sci-fi focused title, players lead their own customizable fleet of ships in asynchronous multiplayer battles while setting up strategic battle formations and taking control of their own flagship in Commander Mode for real-time decisions. It brings new utility to Alien Worlds NFTs by unlocking access to “ultra-premium ships and upgrades” to holders of this metaverse’s assets. The kind of ships you can get depends on the rarity of your tokens. If you don’t have an NFT, then you can still enjoy playing the game as a free-to-play experience while trying to get better ships by spending earned coins in the in-game shop.
