Fans of PEPE, DOGE, SHIB, BONK, and DEGEN, it’s your time to shine in The Sandbox metaverse with the Rise of the Memecoins event, which features NFT and token rewards earnable in various ways from July to September.
How Does This Event Work?
This is a multi-series event in which players can earn the above mentioned memecoins, plus SAND, but there are also exclusive new NFT avatars up for grabs too.
Specifically, there is one limited edition memecoin-inspired avatar collection per memecoin, with 10,000 exclusive avatars included in each. This means 5 new collections from partnered projects: PEPE, DOGE, SHIB, BONK, and DEGEN. Every collection seems to have Normal, Gold and Diamond skins. The top 80% participants get a Normal skin, while the top 17.5% get a Gold skin and the top 2.5% get the rarest Diamond skin.
How do you get one of these new avatars? Well, you need to have an account on The Sandbox, and at least 5 SAND in your wallet, either on the Polygon or Ethereum network while holding at least one of the memecoin tokens. If you own multiple memecoins, then the memecoin in which you have the most USD value will be the one you’re eligible for, so if you have 5 SAND, 50 BONK and 200 DOGE, you’ll be getting a DOGE Avatar instead of a BONK one due to your DOGE holdings being larger in USD value than the value of the BONK tokens you hold. The bigger the USD value of your SAND/LAND + memecoin holdings, the better chances you have of getting airdropped a Gold or Diamond skin instead of a Normal one.
It’s also important to note that due to the avatar supply limit of 10k per collection, you will want to make sure you’re among the top 10k holders of the memecoin you hold at the time of the snapshot in order to become eligible for an avatar airdrop that is based on the memecoin you’re holding. Before the snapshot takes place, The Sandbox will give the community an opportunity to get a sneak peek of the avatars on July 29th via social media, while the airdrop will take place on August 5th.
Exclusive Event for Memecoin Avatar Holders
Memecoin avatar holders will get exclusive perks in a real-time event that will consist of the best experiences from the event's exclusive new Game Jam contest. There will be 5 to 10 different winning experiences featuring various quests to complete. Doing a certain number of quests will be rewarded with memecoins, with the amount varying based on multipliers applied to global rewards. How high these multipliers will be will depend on the amount of participating users and the number of quests completed. This event is available to memecoin avatar holders only, with more details to be revealed later on.
Next to these token and NFT holder-focused events, anyone looking to express their creative skills can try their best at 2 new contests in which you can earn SAND tokens. These include a VoxEdit Contest and a Game Jam. Specific details on the Game Jam do not seem to be available at the time of writing, but it will essentially revolve around creating meme-inspired experiences for a chance at winning SAND tokens while potentially being among the selected submissions for the avatar-only real-time event, for which at least 5 of the top entries will be picked.
Rise of the Memecoins VoxEdit Contest
The theme for this special contest is “Memes as wearables.” As such, the goal is to design a wearable or a complete wearable set in the free VoxEdit software. Creating a whole set is rewarded with a 100 SAND bonus if you rank in the top 10. According to the announcement, a full set is said to consist of a Chest, Head, Arms and Legs Template. Participants can add a sword and shield if they want to, but they aren’t considered as being a part of the complete set.
The equipment template must be used and the submission should be based off of one of these 5 memes: DOGE, SHIB, BONK, DEGEN or PEPE.
A prize pool of 10k SAND has been allocated to the top 10 submissions:
- 1st place: 2,500 SAND
- 2nd place: 1,750 SAND
- 3rd place: 1,000 SAND
- 4th to 10th place: each receives 250 SAND
There is also a participation prize of 30 SAND that is awarded to the first 100 valid participants that don’t end up ranking in the top 10. Submissions close on August 6th at 11:59 PM UTC.
