Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, recently announced new blockchain features for the social media platform during the Token2049 conference. These features center around the TON token and aim to make crypto use straightforward for all users.
From now on, Telegram channel admins will be able to receive payments in Toncoin (TON) for advertising services. Starting this week, users will be able to tip channel admins in TON, with content creators getting a part of the revenue.
One of the most exciting features is the ability to buy and sell stickers as NFTs. Notably, sticker artists will receive 95% of the sales proceeds. Telegram will also have mini-apps that allow users to buy content with crypto and share TON with contacts directly.
Durov noted the user-friendly nature of these updates, stating, "For the first time in social media history, you can directly own your username, sell it, put it up for auction, buy multiple usernames, and attach them to your account." These features do not require any programming skills, making them accessible to all.
What's more, users will soon be able to log into their Telegram accounts using crypto wallets. Another upcoming feature will be the ability to register the rights to an account's name so users can sell it if they wish.
These new features are set to transform how users interact with blockchain tech on social media platforms. As these features roll out, they promise to enhance the user experience, adding crypto transactions to social media interactions.
