Legal marriage proceedings, court case disputes and government services may take place in the Metaverse in the near future. In the recently concluded TechLaw Fest 2022, Edwin Tong, Singapore’s Second Minister for Law, stated that such events have previously taken place online in the Metaverse. 

The minister added that there is no reason why legal events can’t take place if other events have been taking place on the metaverse. He buttressed that the 2020 pandemic has proven that most physical contact processes can be held online without any hassles.

Tony cited a legal scenario of settling a dispute in a construction site. He said:

“You can put yourself into the actual tunnel or the oil containment facility to look at the construction dispute from the perspective of an augmented reality, representing the actual space.” 

He further added:

“It would not be unthinkable that, besides registration of marriages, other government services can soon be accessed online via the Metaverse. I believe such an integrated platform will make the whole dispute resolution process more convenient, efficient, and keep pace with how the rest of the world is developing.”

Event Taking Place In The Metaverse 

Recently, Metaverse giants Decentraland hosted a wedding on its metaverse. There were over 2000 virtual guests in attendance. A law firm named Rose Law Group conducted the marriage legally. According to the president and founder of the law firm, Jordan Rose, the event was the first-ever wedding hosted on a blockchain platform. 

In other news, the government of South Korea is forging ahead in its $177 million metaverse project. The project aims to develop a platform where citizens can access various government services.
