MoG Scholarship Program Expands Into APAC
Onchain Heroes: Maze of Gains (MoG) has launched a scholarship program in partnership with Abstract Asia, targeting players across Korea, China, and Thailand. The deal brings structured access to the game for new players in three of the region's most active gaming markets, with 300 keys sponsored per month to support ongoing weekly tournaments and community events.
The move signals a deliberate push to grow the Onchain Heroes and OCH ecosystem in Asia, where competition for web3 gaming talent and community size is intensifying. Abstract Asia serves as the APAC-focused community arm of Abstract Chain, the Layer 2 network on which Onchain Heroes is built, making the partnership a natural extension of the game's existing infrastructure relationships.
What the Scholarship Program Covers
The 300 monthly keys are distributed across Korea, China, and Thailand, giving selected players access to the game without needing to acquire a Genesis Hero NFT on the secondary market. The keys are tied to weekly tournament participation and community event involvement, creating a competitive structure from the start of each player's journey.
Scholarship arrangements in blockchain gaming traditionally allow community guilds or partner organizations to onboard players who might not have the upfront capital to buy into a game, while those players in turn participate in gameplay and contribute to ecosystem activity. By routing this program through Abstract Asia, Onchain Heroes gains access to an established APAC community network rather than building regional presence from scratch.
The Asia-Pacific region increasingly dominates game development and player activity in web3 gaming, hosting 40 percent of developers and launching half of all new web3 games. Korea has been among the most active markets: South Korea nearly doubled its contribution to new web3 gaming teams year over year and accounted for 27 percent of new web3 teams.
About Onchain Heroes: Maze of Gains
Onchain Heroes is a fully onchain idle RPG developed by Skarly, a former lead developer at Wolf Game. The game runs on the Abstract blockchain and is designed for players who enjoy strategy and calculated risks, delivering a fair and verifiable experience through fully onchain mechanics.
Onchain Heroes blends idle gameplay with onchain strategy, ownership, and progression. It is easy to pick up but offers plenty of depth. The game runs in the browser and works on both desktop and mobile.
The game revolves around the $HERO token, an ERC-20 utility token that serves multiple functions within Onchain Heroes. Players use $HERO to pay entry fees for battles and dungeons, upgrade their heroes, purchase in-game cosmetics, and unlock exclusive rewards. Tokens can be earned by completing missions, engaging in battles, and ranking on the leaderboard.
Access to the game requires owning a Genesis Hero NFT. Every hero starts out the same, with rarity affecting only cosmetics. Their appearance stays hidden until they have fought their first battle. Genesis Rings give holders a share of the $HERO token supply and access to future airdrops.
Season 2 and the Dragma Update
Season 2, titled Dragma, introduced a new antagonist created from the collapse of broken timelines. Dragma consumes $HERO, the core energy resource in the Onchain Heroes universe, and poses a direct threat to the game's ecosystem. The storyline sets the stage for a more complex battle system where players must prepare for a final confrontation against this new World Boss. All Genesis Heroes reset to Level 1 at the start of Season 2, offering all players a level playing field.
This seasonal structure makes onboarding easier for new players, who can jump in at the start of each season with a level playing field. Seasonal resets also help prevent inflation, an issue that affected many older play-to-earn games, and new mechanics roll out each season, giving returning players something fresh to explore without overwhelming newcomers.
The Abstract Chain Connection
Onchain Heroes is built on Abstract Chain, a Layer 2 solution that enhances the Ethereum network and provides essential infrastructure for blockchain gaming. Abstract Chain offers fast transactions, lower gas fees, and the Abstract Global Wallet, which simplifies the user experience and makes the game accessible to newcomers to web3 gaming.
Proof of Play's Verifiable Random Function technology is central to the partnership, ensuring that every random outcome in the game is provably fair and enhancing transparency and trust among players. The technology has already been tested in Pirate Nation, where it processed over 75 million transactions with an average processing time of 1.5 seconds per transaction.
Abstract Asia, the regional community partner, represents the APAC expansion of the Abstract Chain ecosystem. Its presence in Korea, China, and Thailand gives Onchain Heroes direct access to organized local communities within those markets, allowing the scholarship program to reach players who already have some familiarity with the underlying chain infrastructure.
Blockchain gaming currently comprises 35 percent of total decentralized app industry activity globally, with approximately 2.2 million daily unique active wallets. Asia accounts for 35 percent of traffic to blockchain game rankings. For a game like Onchain Heroes that depends on active weekly tournament participation, growing its player count in APAC is a practical step toward keeping its competitive events populated and its seasonal economy healthy.
More apps and expanded regional events are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the partnership develops further.
