Immutable-backed gaming ecosystem Overtake is gearing up to launch a CBT Pass Sale on July 2nd that will allow holders to play to earn in the upcoming closed beta of Somnis: Rumble Rush.
What to Expect in Closed Beta
Somnis: Rumble Rush is a casual real-time strategy game featuring 1v1 PvE and PvP lane-based gameplay, similar to Clash Royale. As such, it’s designed to be an accessible blockchain mobile game where players earn resources used to craft unique items, unlocking new Buildings as well as Unit and Spell Cards to build out a strong strategic deck. Cards can be improved by adding to them equipment items, but if you want them to gain special skills and bonus abilities, then it looks like you will have to either level them up or combine cards using the card synthesis feature. Players will have their own town with various upgradable buildings, each designed to serve a certain purpose.
While details on specific features haven’t really been given for now, the gameplay sneak peek shown via a YouTube short reveals that you will be able to level up cards using a likely earnable in-game currency, choosing which special skill you’d like to add to the card while increasing its health and damage stats. In PvE there will be various bosses to face, while PvP revolves around playing ranked matches that will count towards your leaderboard position for this upcoming beta. The maps you battle on seem to vary from having 3 lanes to 5 lanes, requiring you to have multiple tactics ready to make the most of the strategic depth that each battlefield may provide.
The closed beta on July 4th marks the debut of this Web3 title, and it’s also one of the first 3 games the developers plan to release this year. To participate in this beta, which is limited to 1500 participants, you will have to mint a CBT Pass when the sale begins on July 2nd, though you might have a chance of gaining access through other means such as by completing Zealy Quests, according to an earlier tweet this month.
A total of 1200 Passes will be up for minting on the official mint page of the ecosystem’s website via Immutable zkEVM. The minting price is unknown at the time of writing (Edit July 1st: it's $10 USDC per Pass), but owning a Pass will let you play on Android by downloading the APK file of the game so you can sign in with Immutable Passport. Participants can then start competing for the top leaderboard spots that will receive a share of the $35,000 prize pool. This reward pool specifically contains $15,000 USDT alongside $20,000 worth of Genesis NFTs and in-game assets. The number of high-ranking players that will be eligible for rewards does not seem to have been revealed yet. It’s a bit unclear whether you receive a Genesis NFT, as said by the studio on social media, or as the main page for the game puts it, “Genesis NFT Ticket,” which could mean a whitelist spot for the upcoming Genesis NFT sale that is scheduled for Q3 this year. Based on the FAQ section, no iOS version will be available during this phase, so you will have to resort to using an emulator on a Windows PC to participate if you don't have an Android device.
If you miss out on this closed play-to-earn event, you can then look forward to the open beta test starting at some point in August.
What Other Games Are Coming to the Overtake Ecosystem This Year?
As previously mentioned, the tactical mobile game will be the first to arrive on the Overtake platform, but the studio plans on launching 2 more games this year. Those seem to be the following: The Red One: Occultation and Golden Guardians.
The Red One: Occultation is a sci-fi third-person extraction shooter on Immutable zkEVM that is in development in Unreal Engine 5, while Golden Guardians is a casual mobile RPG in which players battle waves of enemies in action-packed 2D gameplay similar to Vampire Survivors. Pre-registrations for The Red One are currently open, while Golden Guardians is slated for a Q3 2024 launch.
