Laguna Games, the developer behind the popular blockchain game Crypto Unicorns, has started migrating its ecosystem from Polygon to the Arbitrum-based L3 XAI blockchain. Announced in January 2024, this move aims to use gasless transactions and smoother onboarding. The initial phase of this migration involves converting the existing RBW token into the new CU token at a 10-to-1 ratio.

The new CU token offers attractive staking options. Given that, holders can stake CU for 12 months with an estimated annual percentage rate (APR) of 28%. Alternatively, they can provide liquidity by staking the CU-ETH pair, which boasts a higher APR of 163%. This liquidity pool also yields rewards in GRAIL tokens, which are used on the decentralized exchange (DEX) for liquidity provider (LP) staking. Additionally, users can earn extra XAI and CU tokens by participating in a points-based leaderboard.

Upcoming Game Reboot and Asset Bridging

The migration to XAI also involves a major game reboot scheduled for June 2024. To facilitate this transition, the Shadowcorn contracts are currently disabled, necessitating the bridging of all assets to the new network for continued gameplay.

Since its inception in early 2022 with a basic farming mode, Crypto Unicorns has grown significantly. Now, the game includes jousting and shadowcorns gameplay, and has expanded to feature additional titles such as Rainbow Rumble and Unicorn Party. Particularly, Unicorn Party is notable for its collection of casual real-time multiplayer and mobile-first games, including popular titles like Bumpercorns and Mob Run.

In a 2023 interview with BlockchainGamer, Laguna Games CEO Aron Beierschmitt discussed the strategic expansion of Crypto Unicorns. The migration to the XAI blockchain and the introduction of the CU token are pivotal steps in this ongoing evolution, aiming to enhance user experience and broaden the game's appeal.
