Arbitrum's Xai game network is in the news again, a week after a big XAI token airdrop. This time, it's about Crypto Unicorns and other NFT games moving from the Polygon network on Ethereum to the Xai network on Arbitrum.
Crypto unicorns
Crypto Unicorns, which started in 2021, is an environment with many parts, such as a mainland-based building and fighting game, side games like jousting, and even party games. So far, the project's NFTs have generated a huge trading volume of about $35 million, which makes it a major player in the blockchain gaming area.
Even though Crypto Unicorns was becoming more popular, it had some problems while running on Polygon, especially with network gas spikes. These spikes not only made the game more expensive to run, but they also made it harder for players to move. Laguna Games, the company that made Crypto Unicorns, did something unusual to fix the problem: they paid for players' network gas fees. The monthly payment for this financial obligation was a large $5,000 to $10,000. Even though this move was made with good intentions, it couldn't work in the long run.
The Xai Solution: Giving players free gas
The Xai gaming network from Arbitrum is said to be a layer-3 game network built on top of Arbitrum, which is an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network. Xai gives players a special benefit: a gas grant that lets them work without having to pay network gas fees. It was this function that made the difference for Crypto Unicorns and other NFT projects that switched.
Aron Beierschmitt, co-founder and CEO of Laguna Games, said that Xai's gas support was a key part of solving Polygon's problems. He stressed how important it was to cut down on delay while keeping assets safe. Moving to Xai opens up a great chance to make their game ecosystem better in many ways.
The move to Xai is expected to be the "biggest migration in the history" of blockchain games. More than 25 smart contracts run Crypto Unicorns' NFTs and game logic. Beierschmitt described a "staged rollout" plan for the move, which means it will happen in several stages. As part of the migration, news about airdrops and other community-building activities are also planned to keep players interested and involved.
A game company called Ex Populus, which works with the Xai Foundation and the Arbitrum developer Offchain Labs on the Xai network, will be very important in this change. In addition to technical support, Ex Populus will help Laguna Games with promotion by publishing their games.
Tobias Batton, co-founder and CEO of Ex Populus, was excited that Laguna Games had decided to move to Xai. He thought this was "huge validation" for the Xai environment and said that a lot of projects were now interested in building on Xai or moving to it. Batton gave hints about upcoming news, which makes it sound like the Xai network is about to grow a lot.
The Xai Foundation just recently released the XAI token and gave away a lot of it to users who helped support the network. This move comes right after that. The worth of the token went through the roof soon after it was released, which made the airdrop even more valuable. The amazing performance of Xai and its growing community show that both developers and users are interested in the network.
The blockchain gaming community is looking forward to the improvements and new possibilities that Crypto Unicorns and other similar NFT games will bring when they move to Arbitrum's Xai network. This move shows that the world of blockchain games is always changing, and that adaptability and new ideas are key to success.
