A new Axie Infinity marketplace is coming your way
Sky Mavis, the creator of Axie Infinity has announced an important update to its in-house marketplace. By early August, the marketplace will support the ERC-1155 standard, thus allowing players to trade tokens such as NFT runes and charms.
With this upgrade, the Axie marketplace will be able to handle higher traffic volumes as well. According to Sky Mavis, an improved capacity will help the website to load smoothly during periods of growth and adoption. On the other hand, the team is also looking to reduce NFT pollution. Hence, the new platform will only allow users to list their NFTs for 6 months at max.
Following the upgrade, all NFT listings will be taken down. Those who have put up their Axies for sale will need to re-list them afterward. For that matter, Sky Mavis explained that they won't be able to help migrate any listings, since this will involve them signing transactions on behalf of users.
Sky Mavis is hoping to bring back players with new updates
Apparently, Sky Mavis is confident that the Axie Infinity: Origin will make it big in August. When players come back to re-list their Axies, the team expects players to change their minds after seeing Origin's success.
However, those measures seem to infuriate players instead. “Now you [are] stealing our time,” said Twitter user @ReplyChimp. “People deserve to list their NFTs and abandon an ecosystem if they want.” Apart from that, other players are simply more interested in how these new updates will affect the SLP price.
To date, many blockchain games like Axie Infinity do not have a sustainable play-to-earn economy. Even billionaire Mark Cuban also criticized Axie's P2E model last month. Although there is an SLP burning mechanism in Origin, it remains to be seen if Axie Infinity will regain its former glory in this space.
