$CHECK Is Now Live and Tradable on Coinbase
Checkmate ($CHECK), the native token of the Anichess ecosystem, is now available for buying, selling, converting, sending, receiving, and storing on Coinbase and the Coinbase app. The listing went live on April 2, 2026, giving one of the most accessible crypto platforms in the world direct access to the token powering a fast-growing web3 chess ecosystem developed by Animoca Brands in partnership with Chess.com.
The Coinbase listing is the latest in a rapid sequence of exchange milestones for $CHECK. The token was added to the WEEX exchange on March 25, 2026, where its 24-hour trading volume hit $20.98 million against an $11.16 million market cap on day one. That turnover ratio of 1.35 reflected the level of activity the token attracted almost immediately after liquidity opened. Coinbase had included CHECK on its public listing roadmap on March 24, 2026, just one day before the WEEX debut, and the Coinbase listing itself triggered a 60% price surge on the day of announcement.
A Token Built Around Skill and Strategy
$CHECK is the utility and governance token of the Checkmate Ecosystem, a blockchain gaming network designed around strategy games. The token carries a fixed total supply of 1 billion, with 59.38% allocated to community and ecosystem growth. Players use it to enter skill-based tournaments and ranked matches, stake it to earn Mate Points (M8) alongside additional rewards, and purchase in-game cosmetics and digital collectibles.
Governance rights are also built into CHECK, allowing holders to vote on Checkmate Improvement Proposals, which shape grants, integrations, and the direction of the ecosystem. Over 56% of total supply flows toward the community, making player activity the central driver of token distribution rather than passive holding.
The infrastructure behind CHECK spans multiple chains. The Abstract Chain handles staking, claims, and M8 generation, while Base, Coinbase's own Layer 2 network, hosts CHECK liquidity and trading on Aerodrome Finance. Players bridge tokens between chains depending on whether they are competing inside the game or trading on the open market.
Gambit Mode Delivers 250,000 CHECK Weekly
Ahead of the Coinbase listing, the Anichess team activated Gambit Mode, a competitive game mode where players compete for a share of 250,000 CHECK in weekly rewards. The mode ties token demand directly to in-game performance, creating a live economic loop where skilled players can earn from active play rather than passive participation.
Season 7 is scheduled for Q2 2026 and will include Quarterly Playoffs, further expanding the competitive calendar. The Anichess team confirmed that CHECK will be used for tournament entry fees and rewards throughout the season. With Gambit Mode running weekly distributions and Season 7 bringing larger bracket-style events, the in-game utility of the token is deepening on a short timeline.
The Checkmate Ecosystem Expands Beyond Anichess
The team behind CHECK has outlined a multi-game network expansion planned across 2026 and 2027. The goal is to extend the token's reach beyond Anichess into a broader suite of community-owned strategy games, each using CHECK to power their in-game economies and governance layers.
In March 2026, the ecosystem also announced a partnership with Alibaba Cloud to build AliBAE, a platform that integrates AI tools for Web3 content creation. The project uses Alibaba's Qwen AI model family, which had recorded more than 700 million downloads on Hugging Face as of January 2026 and had supported over 180,000 derivative models built by developers. AliBAE launched with 100,000 CHECK in opening bounty rewards, split across two campaigns running until April 8, 2026. The Animoca Minds campaign offers 50,000 CHECK for the top AI-generated video entries, while the King's Gambit campaign distributes 50,000 CHECK for short-form video content inspired by the Anichess mobile title.
About Anichess
Anichess is a free-to-play onchain strategy game built by Animoca Brands as the official Web3 game partner of Chess.com, a platform with more than 600 million registered players. The game layers spell mechanics, player-owned loadouts, and competitive PvP tournaments on top of classic chess rules. Spells allow players to revive pieces, teleport units, and alter board states in ways that add a tactical dimension unavailable in standard play.
The project has attracted more than 1 million players and has generated over 100 million views across TikTok and Twitch. The player base includes professional grandmasters such as Magnus Carlsen and Anish Giri alongside casual players and competitive climbers. Anichess also launched a Genesis NFT collection in July 2025, which grants holders exclusive in-game rewards and $CHECK airdrop eligibility. With 605 million chess players globally and a game market valued above $2.5 billion, the Checkmate Ecosystem is positioning CHECK as the token connecting that audience to onchain ownership and competitive rewards.
